Configure application based routing (ABR)

If Application-based-routing (ABR) is not displayed in the EC Dashboard, this service option must be ordered in advance for each location. You can get in to the ordering process by following these steps: Order Management

The following prerequisites and limitations apply:

  • ABR is only available in the EC-M, L and XL version.
  • ABR requires one (for EC-M and L) or two (for EC-XL) seperate internet connection(s) at the EC location.
  • Data communication via the ABR connection can only take place between EC-M/L/XL locations that also have an ABR connection.
  • When using ABR, the AR657W router no longer has an optical LAN port (only copper Ethernet ports).
  • The max IP MTU over the ABR link is < 1500 Bytes.

Configure Application based routing:

  1. Under Settings -> ABR Traffic Steering Profile -> enter the name of the traffic profile under Label.
  2. Then a default rule appears.
  3. Then click Rule and define the individual rules for the data traffic that has to be sent via the ABR connection.
    • In the list of the rules, the required rule for the return path is automatically configured in each case.
  4. Under VPN, select the VPN where the ABR profile is to be used.
    • Select the desired traffic steering profile in the drop-down menu under ABR Traffic Steering Profile.
  5. Under location, select the location where you want ABR to be used.
  6. Under CPE, select the ABR port at the CPE and click Enable.
  7. Under Upstream Bandwidth, enter the bandwidth that the Internet connection has.
  8. On EC-XL locations, the ABR port and the Upstream bandwidth must be enabled on both routers.
  9. Perform steps 5 through 8 at each location where ABR is to be used.
  10. Activate the created configuration by sending the shopping cart.
